Photographs: 1956 – 1976 / Silver Gelatin Photobook Proof Prints

This collection is a set of silver gelatin proof prints from David Hurn’s first monograph published by the Arts Council of Great Britain in 1979. The images cover Hurn’s work between 1956-1976 showing much of his early projects including the Hungarian revolution, travels in southern Europe and early photographs of his native Wales.

In addition to the prints is an early book-layout composed of Black and White slides corresponding with the order of the final book, showing an early example of sequencing and book layouts. Also included is a number of supporting materials such as correspondence letters, sample page layouts, and a finished copy of the book.
