Land of My Father, 1967 – 1999 / Silver Gelatin Photobook Proof Prints
This collection is a set of silver gelatin proof prints from David Hurn’s best known monograph ‘Land Of My Father’ published by Thames & Hudson in 2000. During the 1970’s after a period of time living in London working on editorial assignments and fashion jobs, David Hurn decided to return to his native Wales to begin working on stories more personal to him.
He began exploring the transformation of Welsh heritage and culture by photographing mine-workers with their pit-ponies, day-trippers on the beach, sheep-dog trials and horse fairs, brass bands, traditional singers, the chapel and the eisteddfod. Alongside this he also focused on modern developments such as: Japanese factories producing microchips and computer products, hamburger stalls, discos – even male strippers.
In addition to the print collection are supporting materials such as; sample page layouts, and correspondence letters. All of the photographs in this collection also feature in the Complete set of Wales Photographs 1966 – 2014 pigment print collection.
