[Pictured] collection of vintage silver gelatin prints from the East End photographs by Markéta Luskačová.

This work by Czech photographer Markéta Luskačová is from her series on Brick Lane and Spitalfields in the East End of London. Throughout the mid-1970s she began documenting the markets, street vendors and performers of the area, over the years gaining the trust of the community.

Later in 1989 Luskačová was commissioned for two years by the Whitechapel Gallery to edit, print, and produce a series of interim exhibitions of this previous work at Christ Church School, Homerton Hospital, and Spitalfields Health Center. She exhibited 80 prints from the series at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1991 and a catalogue was published to accompany the show.

As well as the East End photographs, the MPF Collection includes a set of modern pigment prints from Luskačová’s work made of the North East seaside which was exhibited at Martin Parr Foundation in 2019.
