The Lake has been produced to mark 100 years of Henleaze Swimming Club, which was established in a flooded limestone quarry in a suburb of Bristol in 1919.

Susie Parr traces the club's troubles and successes decade by decade, relating each to the social and political context of the time. The publication is illustrated with photographs and posters from 1914 through to modern day.
