Following his iconic work 'Sleeping by the Mississippi', Alec Soth turned to photographing gatherings across the USA, including dances, meetings and festivals. Assuming the role of a community newspaper reporter, Soth attended hundreds of events from 2012 to 2014.

Songbook presents these photographs - taken from upstate New York to Silicon Valley - stripped of the original news context, alluding to tension between American individualism and the desire to be united.
