In this publication, Ian Macdonald's photography is presented alongside paintings by Len Tabner, providing a thorough documentation of the final months of Smith's Dock. Smith's Dock was the last working shipyard on the river Tees, located at South Bank near Middlesbrough.

The visuals are accompanied by by many texts, including transcribed taped interviews with a wide selection of the the dock's workers, as well as plans, maps and old photographs, resulting in an extensive piece of documentation.
