Melanie Friend will give an overview of her photographic practice in an artist talk to mark a selection of her prints entering the MPF collection.

Melanie worked as a freelance photojournalist in the 1980s, covering the anti-nuclear movement and Greenpeace, among other campaigns, before producing work for galleries from the 1990s onwards that focused on wider aspects of war. From 1986 to 2003 Melanie was a member of Format Photographers.

Melanie will discuss a range of her works touching on her photojournalism and portrait work in the UK and overseas, as well as her later work which has been published in two photobooks, The Home Front (2013) and The Plain (2020).

These publications look at the relationship between the military and the landscape, with The Home Front exploring the military, marketing and entertainment and The Plain (2020) documenting the military landscape of Salisbury Plain. Both were published by Dewi Lewis.

Followed by questions from the floor and a book signing.
