Siân James and Craig Oldham / Artist Talk

Join us for an evening comprising two talks recalling the miners' strike with guest speakers Siân James and Craig Oldham.

This event has been programmed to coincide with the current MPF exhibition, ONE YEAR! Photographs from the miners’ strike 1984-85.

Siân will begin the evening with a discussion on her first-hand experiences during the strike, focusing on the role played by women. Siân was the chairwoman of the South Wales Women’s Miners Support Group and played an extensive role in community organising and fundraising. She worked with the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners Group (LGSM), and was depicted in the BBC film ‘Pride’ for her role during this.

Following Siân's talk and a short break, designer Craig Oldham will present In Loving Memory of Work, published by Rough Trade Books and now in its third edition. This expansive book tells the story of the creativity and vast visual media produced during the strike.

Drawing from his extensive research and experience as a designer, Craig will discuss this publication and share many insights into the strike.

Followed by questions from the floor and a book signing by Craig Oldham.

Please nose, this talk will be slightly longer than usual - see below for approximate timings.
