Janine Wiedel
Artist Talk and Film Screening

Coinciding with the current MPF exhibition – Intersectional Geographies – photographer Janine Wiedel will discuss her project Vulcan’s Forge.

In Vulcan’s Forge, Janine documented workers and industries in the West Midlands from 1977 to 1979, including coal-mining, iron and steel forging, chain-making, alongside others.

The original installation of Vulcan’s Forge was shown at The Photographers gallery in 1979. Last year the work was re-installed at The Hive, Birmingham, and highlights from the series are now on display at Martin Parr Foundation, Bristol, as a part of the the group show Intersectional Geographies.

In 1978, ATV produced a television documentary about the early stages of Vulcan’s Forge, which will be screened on the evening of the event (approx 25 mins).

Followed by questions from the floor.
