Join photographer Elaine Constantine for a special screening of her debut feature film, Northern Soul (2014), followed by a conversation with Martin Parr.

Northern Soul was a box office success, winning NME’s film of the year as well as being nominated for a BAFTA. Inspired by the music scene Elaine grew up on, the film tells the story of two young Lancashire teenagers, Matt and John, whose lives were changed forever by the discovery of African-American soul music and the dance culture around it in Britain.

Following the screening, Elaine will be joined by Martin Parr for a conversation about the film and Elaine’s wider photographic practice documenting the northern soul scene in the 1990s. The conversation will then be opened to the floor.

This screening will be hosted in The RPS auditorium, next door to the Foundation and has been programmed to coincide with Elaine’s exhibition I’m Com’un Home In The Morn’un, on display in the MPF gallery from 11 JUN to 22 SEPT 2024.
