Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen began to photograph the communities living in Byker, Newcastle, in 1970; this material formed the content of her 1983 photobook Byker.
Since leaving Byker in 1976, Konttinen has maintained contact with the area and its many residents, continuing to document people and the space. Byker Revisited presents the resulting extensive portrait of a contemporary community in flux.
