The Martin Parr Foundation will revisit, highlight and share the important contribution Tony Ray-Jones made to British documentary photography in this brand new exhibition.
“Tony Ray-Jones was one of my initial inspirations. His imagery showed me what was possible photographing my own country.” – Martin Parr
In 2012 Martin Parr revisited Ray-Jones’ contact sheets and found previously unseen images. These new discoveries will be exhibited alongside iconic early images, including vintage prints from the MPF collection.
There has not been a Tony Ray-Jones book in print for many years. Martin Parr Foundation and RRB Photobooks will correct this oversight in a joint publication to coincide with the show.
This weekend – 18 and 19 OCT – parts of the exhibition will by obstructed by BOP Bristol 19, a brand new photobook festival hosted by Martin Parr Foundation and The Royal Photographic Society.
Full details of the festival are here.
