Join MPF, The RPS and We Feed The UK for an evening of photography with live poetry to mark the opening of two new exhibitions, celebrating our custodians of soil and sea.
We Feed The UK is a project from The Gaia Foundation using the transformative power of positive storytelling to grow support for nature-friendly food production. The campaign connects photographers and poets with our most inspiring food producers, to raise public awareness of their positive solutions to climate change, wildlife recovery and social justice. For the first time all ten stories from We Feed The UK will be on display, exhibited across both MPF and The RPS.
At Martin Parr Foundation we’re exhibiting A Fish Called Julie by Jon Tonks. For this new work Jon Tonks has spent over a year with those trying to fish sustainably in waters off Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, documenting stories of many stewards of the sea; those preserving the livelihoods, culture, and marine life supported by blue waters.
Stories at The RPS range from the Black-led food justice movement growing from London’s glasshouses, to a community-owned farm that’s using regenerative agriculture to regenerate mental health.
The evening is sponsored by Lost and Grounded brewers and their beer will be available complimentary on the evening.
The Royal Photographic Society are exhibiting the complete collection of photography and poetry from We Feed The UK, bringing together for the first time work by Aaron Schuman, Arpita Shah, Yvette Monahan, Andy Pilsbury, Johannah Churchill, Ayesha Jones, Sophie Gerrard, and Johannes Pretorius. Poems include a celebration of hedgerows by beatboxing champion Testament, grain rebels by legendary poet-singer Dizraeli, and the soil by BBC Radio 4’s Kate Fox. The exhibition will also include brand new photography by Lua Ribeira. Bread Making at Gothelney Farm documents a farmer and baker reintroducing diversity to fields and loaves.
