Photographer Margaret Mitchell will be in conversation with Fiona Rogers (Founder, Firecracker) to discuss her new photobook ‘Passage’.
Published by Bluecoat Press, 2021, ‘Passage’ brings together two of Margaret’s connected bodies of work – Family and In This Place – which span more than 20 years in the lives of her extended family.
Through three generations, Margaret reflects on the personal and political, presenting a story of love and loss with social inequality at its heart. She questions how society operates, touching on social environment, choices offered, and opportunities given. Do we have choices in life, or are some predetermined for us?
Margaret will then discuss how these themes fit within her wider practice, touching on place and belonging.
“I want the viewer to ask themselves a question about how society operates, how choice is related to opportunity and environment. To see that sometimes people choose what they do because really, not much has been offered in the first place.” – Margaret Mitchell
