Join us for a cider at the next MPF exhibition party to launch Made out of Orchards, a new series of photographs by Tessa Bunney.

In 2019 Martin Parr Foundation commissioned Tessa to create new work exploring Somerset cider makers. Between 2019 and 2022 Tessa photographed the processes and traditions of cider making, including, milling, building the ‘cheese’, pressing, fermenting, and wassailing, as well as the people who drop by the orchards for a quick half.

The resulting work captures the cider industry at a time of transition and hardship, as cider makers adapt to accommodate Brexit and the pandemic; an industry in flux, and one that could soon be lost.

There will be cider available at the opening from Burrow Hill Cider and apple brandy from The Somerset Cider Brandy Company – both of which Tessa has photographed during the making of this work – as well as beer from local Bristol brewery, Lost and Grounded.

Made out of Orchards will be on display in the MPF gallery from 21 JUL – 25 SEPT 2022.
