Join photographer Elaine Constantine and the MPF team for an evening of photography and discover the northern soul scene of the 90s to launch I’m Com’un Home In The Morn’un.
Complimentary drinks will be available from our friends and local Bristol brewery Lost and Grounded.
In the early 1990s Elaine moved from Manchester to London for her photography career and had been commissioned to photograph night clubs for The Face magazine. She was asked to make photographs at the 100 Club where they played rare American 60s and 70s soul music through the night. The exhibition presents Elaine’s dynamic and full-colour images that capture the northern soul scene of the 1990s, depicting the extreme aerobics and the unstoppable energy of twenty and thirty somethings.
After the MPF event, a northern soul afterparty will be held at Crofters Rights in Stokes Croft, BS1 3RW, from 8.15PM to 12.00AM, organised with Bristol Northern Soul Club. After exploring Elaine’s photography documenting the scene in the 1990s, everyone is welcome to join the afterparty to continue the festivities and experience the northern soul scene today.
‘Elaine unwittingly produced a valuable document of a uniquely British subculture, where music, dance and style collide.‘ – Martin Parr
